P-38 Lightning - 52 Twin Engine ARF RC Warbird Plane I don't know about you, but when I hear the term "Twin Engine", only a handful of planes immediately come to my mind. At the top of that list is Lockheed's illustrious P-38 Lightning. Throw the term "WWII Fighter" into the equation and I can't think of another. It's also one of those planes that I have always wanted to model, but too often it was either cost, or labor prohibitive. Now NitroModels has rendered the peerless "Forked-Tail Devil" in ARF form for under $250. 90.0" wingspan, 67.0" long, 1085.0 sq. in. wing area, 12 lb. flying weight. Amazing detail, the art of the P-38 model airplane brought to a new level. All Laser Cut Balsa/Plywood construction. Comes with fuel tanks, landing gears, screws and hardware. The mass balances on the elevator are faithfully reproduced. The aircraft is very high quality, high detail, right down to the gun sights. While a great deal of work has been done (about 90% done), there is still a little assembly for you to do. Included is also a illustrated instruction manual. Flight performance is very good with the .52 engines that we recommend and the plane is easy to fly. Landings are slow and soft. Five channels are required: (11 servos). Key Features Our evergreen model airplane Top quality balsa and plywood construction One of the finest ARF kits on the market All wood constructions with fiberglass parts Trimmed and painted cowling by fuel proof paint Pre-hinged flaps for smoother landing Hand iron-on color covering Comes with all hardware and accessories Name: NitroModels 90" P-38 Wingspan: 90 in / 2300mm Wing Area: 1085 sq in / 70sq dm Length: 71 in (180.3 cm) Flying Weight (advertised): 12 lb / 5500g Flying Weight: (actual) 12.5 lb Channels: 5 total - Elevator, Aileron, Rudder, Throttle, Flaps Requirements: Engine: (2) .52 (2-stroke); .60 (4-stroke) Engine Recommended: (2) O.S. On 6 December 1978, the Ministry of Aeronautics and Embraer signed an initial contract of development, including two prototypes and two examples for fatigue testing. The first prototype took off for the first time on 16 August 1980, registered as FAB 1300; the second prototype, FAB 1301, accomplished its first flight in December of the same year.
